Take Your Ambitions Down To The Deep

Established 1946

Rature awaits you! Make something out of yourself that will leave a smirk on everyone's face. Here in Rapture, we prioritize you, and ONLY YOU!

A message from Andrew Ryan

I am Andrew Ryan, your leader, and creator of this fair city, and I only ask of you one question. Are you a man, or a slave? There is no country for someone like me. I took to the sea and created a city that will not be ruled by the fool in Washington, or the beggars on the streets. No. I created something that can become yours too. With enough willpower and work, Rapture can become yours. Just remember…

A man chooses, a slave obeys.

About Andrew Ryan:

Tired of living in a city filled with liars and beggars above, Ryan decided to create a city underneath all the troubles. Using an ideology of human knowledge, Ryan built his city with the aspiration of creating a place where all you could rely on were your morals, your consciousness, and self interest.

I created these two advertisements to showcase the time period in which the game was created, and how twisted Ryan truly is. The first ad was a message from Ryan, so that people would come down to Rapture. The fraise, "A man chooses, a slave obeys", is actually Ryan's motto in the game. It can be seen on many monuments in the city, and the phrase is what drives the whole game. Down in rapture there are men, and there are slaves. The second ad I made is for a plasmid called "Incinerate". It's a drug promised to make the modern housewife and woman more productive. These statements can give you insight onto the time period and culture. All of the written portions of the advertisements were original, and I took inspiration from "Why Bioshock Still Has, and Will Always Have, Something to Say" (Robertson), and "Bioshock', and the Philosophy of Ayn Rand" (Anthony).

Endnotes: I wanted to create a magazine article that made Rapture appear to be something that should only be inhabited by the people who share Andrew Ryan’s views. I wanted to make the article portray that they only want people who are willing to be their own person and who have no sympathy for people below them. I used the articles “What is Objectivism?” (Biddle), “This Is What Happens When You Take Ayn Rand Seriously” (Cummings), “Introductionto Objectivism” (Peikoff), and “Why Bioshock Still Has, and Will Always Have, Something to Say” (Robertson). These were my inspiration for my writing.
